>>>Can anybody find the logic here:<<<

You have to go with the black helicopters here. Election manipulation. Its easier to tweak the commodity price than the equities.

It isn't just in oil. The home builders are putting out horrible news, but those equities are rallying. JP Morgan upgraded them, but future sales are down 33% YOY, and cancellations are up 40%. I am staying short there but have laid in supplies of Maalox. It will be a rough ride into the elections.

>>>>Can anybody find the logic here:

Oil drops $ 1.04 at $ 58.92 (as I type this post), and yet oil stocks are up: MRO up 3+%, VLO up 1%, NBR up 5%. Not that I am complaining. ;o)<<<<

Manny, I'm complaining! 'cause I'm not in on it! I just can't get a handle on the timing with all these illogical patterns the energy market is making. Tried PTEN yesterday...bot at 22.57... got scared out of it (gratefully!) at 22.38....wise move?...not if I can't get the courage to get back into it this a.m. in the face of these crazy commodity price moves to recover my limited loss yesterday!

NG bouncing on a slight gain w/o obvious justification for the little spike while crude is off $1.06 while all the geopolitical crap is saturating us generating a product price risk....And here is PTEN up over 3%....NBR up over 7%,....OMNI up nearly 12%!!! I can't discern any logic to this whole mess....and as a result I'm not recouping my ST losses! %##@@**^@#$!!!

Oh well! Have a good day, everyone, and if anyone can see a near-term bottom, please let us know...of course with a logical explanation <GGG>,

Buck

same logic as preceding day when oil was up most of the day (ending up only slightly) and OIH got crushed?

it's an interesting area of discussion, tho, when commodities and underlying stocks start to diverge. one day may not make a trend, but it's an encouraging sign to see stocks up on a day like today. if CL remains down a buck, it will be an interesting close, both volume and price action.....

Re <<"...Oil drops ... and yet oil stocks are up? ...">>>
--- Maybe some investors figure that the way to decide when to buy umbrella makers' stock is not to look outside to see if it is raining right now?
--- Just a guess.
