I said equivalent, not equal value. Benefits of similar magnitude but dissimilar constitution might me equivalent, but are hardly equal.

We don't really care in the case of what a patented item's intended benefit is, that is up to the inventor and her/his commercial exploitation team. Because of the "invisible hand" of the market, motivated self interest results in benefit to society.

The point I was making is that a patent is an output of a program that has created more benefit to mankind than almost all of the actions of governments combined. It is programmatic and I don't perceive it as a government intervention. Government allowing you to retain property rights on your domicile does not appear to be a government intervention either, merely a programmatic result of your paying your property taxes.
