>That would also send a strong message to Iran.

Yeah, that we don't mind making hundreds of thousands of people starve to death because we're afraid of some two-bit dictator.

re: 1) A world consensus that we will not allow ANY trade, in or out, with NK. 2) A world promise that we will do ANYTHING short of military intervention to have the "Great Leaders" regime overthrown, including finding, funding and supporting any NK group that wants to stage a coup. 3) A promise to start a huge effort to inform the NK people of the truth about the "Great Leader". Whatever we had to do... radio broadcasts, drop propaganda brochures, whatever.

We need more creativity like that at the US leadership level. Too bad we don't have that.

I note that both political sides have responded that that would "starve" the people.

The first response to that is that we were talking about leverage and negotiating positions. Would the "Great Leader" stand up to a world wide effort to overthrow his regime, or will he cave? Probably cave... self preservation is his prime motivation.

If he didn't respond, how long would his regime last with the above conditions? Would people suffer? Yes. Would it be as bad and long as Iraq? I certainly doubt it.

Again, this is speculative. I don't think currently have the power to pull this off, the path from 9/11 has sapped our influence. Still, if we promised China the power to name the successor, maybe we could get somewhere.

What am I thinking? That's the old way of the old Presidents. Let's just bomb the shit out of them. Then we have a whole new front on the "war on terrorism".

There are rumors now that the Chinese will support a group of generals in overthrowing Kim. They weren't happy with the nuke test.
