They may be actions to protect the minority, but protections of the minority are not necessarily actions to protect all. I can't argue with that. Application of any principle is not perfect. But their underlying principle is, or at least was at one time, to mitigate one of the downsides of democracy, majority rule at its ugliest. I think that the ACLU has gotten a little weird, too, but they're the best tool that we have. If someone wanted to reform the ACLU or replace it, we might benefit. But in the meantime, we would all be hurt badly by the loss of its role.
