A baseball analogy is we want a player that can hit singles as well as home runs. Sure, Jobs hit a few critical home runs, but his strength has been that he's consistently hit a high number of singles in between.

As is so common in sports, the head coach or manager gets too much blame when the team is losing and also too much credit when they are playing well.
