Iraq is likely to split into 3 regions rather a single prosperous beacon of democracy. That seems still the likely outcome.

I've often thought this since it could very easily happen.

I am most concerned with inspiring a whole new generation of terrorists by our preemptive invasion on a sovereign ME nation

I'm getting really tired of debating whether we should have gone into Iraq or not. It's a moot point. For the record, while I did think that Saddam needed to be removed, I thought it would have been smarter and more justified to invade Syria rather than Iraq. We already had very good intelligence from the Reagan era that tied the responsibility for bombing the US Beirut Embassy/Marine barracks directly on the Syrians for intelligence and explosives, and the Iranians for finances..... but that's neither here nor there.....

This may sound overly simplistic but sometimes the simplest things make the most sense.... IMO, the present terrorist situation would have happened regardless of our invading Iraq. The wheels were set in motion when the Shah was deposed in 1979. The madrass Islamic style schools were already there during the Shahs reign. All that was needed was the appropriate anti-western, jihad type curricula and some information about brain washing techniques and they were cranking out frothing fanatics in no time. If you look at the ages of these terrorists the vast majority of them are in their mid/late twenties 2006-1979=27 ......

In a nutshell (cause I've got to work<g>) I think the Iranian Mullahs have been planning jihad from the get go.
