DRAM contract prices rise, but are predicted to level off

The Semiconductor Reporter
October 11, 2006

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Contract pricing for DRAM increased in the latest round of negotiation, the DRAMeXchange reported today, but the market watch service expects contract pricing to weaken in the second half of this month.

Contract pricing for DRAM overall was up 2% to 4.5% for the first half of October compared to the latter half of September, the company said, but its analysts believe there will be less price increase in the second half of October, and it could be essentially flat. They cited ramping of 80-nm production by Korean suppliers and additional 300-mm capacity coming on line in Taiwan.

Spot market prices for DRAM trended downwards over the past week, the DRAMeXchange reported. The spot market price today for 667-MHz 512-Mbit (64M by 8) DDR2 DRAM dipped 1.2% from Oct. 2 to an average $6.57, while 533-MHz 512-Mbit DDR2 pricing slipped 1.7% to an average $6.39.

The spot market price for 400-MHz 512-Mbit DDR1 today was an average $6.31, down 0.9% from Monday a week ago. Pricing for 400-MHz 256-Mbit (32M by 8) DDR1 was $3.18, off 0.3%.
