I agree, but simple rules of thumb are probably useful. Often you don't have the time to think out a response once the situation arises.

I saw a presentation a couple of decades ago done by the Atlanta police, I think, directed at women being attacked. I remember a couple of rules of thumb that made sense to me. I remember that they said to not get into a car if you're grabbed in a supermarket parking lot or some such. They said to make him kill you there if he's going to. Fortunately, I never had to use that insight.

Good point about the active violence.
