I'm not sure what Nortel means by 4G Mobile Broadband. I assume because it's WiMax-based, it differs from 4G as defined here:

en.wikipedia.org

Mere mortals are probably having difficulty evaluating competing claims, and it's only going to get worse as each company puts its own marketing spin on standards-based technology.

"Now Fujitsu's product line includes two models of base stations for indoor and outdoor use based on the mobile WiMAX standard and forum definition. The base stations include compact baseband and RF units and support multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) technology and Fujitsu's Digital PreDistortion amplifiers."

(Thanks to robv4)

So, does Nortel give good MIMO? Better than Fuji's?

"... operators will be able to deliver video-grade content for as little as one-tenth the cost per bit of current 3G wireless networks."

Measured how?

"The power of WiMAX for high-bandwidth applications opens a whole new world of mobility, that provides new capabilities and processes for businesses and new revenue-generating services for operators," said Godfrey Chua, research manager, Wireless and Mobile Infrastructure, IDC. "WiMAX has the potential to revolutionize entertainment, provide communication capabilities that haven't even been considered yet, and bring the true Internet experience to the mobile realm."

Now there's a bit of news... but wait - weren't we saying that 6 years ago?

Does anyone reading this stuff take it at face value? Hope not.
