If I wanted to work at Lockheed, Boeing or McDonald Douglas and I was smart, I'd probably go directly into the Air Force and get into airplane engineering and maintenance. I'd then use the college financing offered to go undergrad at a good engineering school. So, the ex GIs you're gonna meet on the floor at those companies are VERY sharp people.

Overall though, it's just realism to think that the best and brightest of our youth are not passing up college to go into a rather low paying job as an infantryman.

If you have some statistics to indicate (rather than anecdotal evidence) that that's not the case, I'd love to see it.

BTW....there's a BIG difference between "stupidity" and "ignorance". Lynndie England might have been ignorant, but I'm not so sure she was stupid. I think she might just have been a young kid looking for direction and thought the military could provide it. Instead, they threw her in with a psychopath like Graner and the rest is history.
