Where have these Muslim cabbies been 'til now?..Why is that NOW, they want to be relieved of infidels carrying alcohol? It's because as LindyBill said, the extremists win these things..they've paved the road..they've seen that Democrats will get caught up in this civil liberties bullshit just because they despise Bush..these people who would be living in caves if not for AMERICAN ingenuity, for AMERICAN love for freedom and creativity and OPENNESS to ALL..those days are slowly counting down..I'm in the midst of Lieberman country this week with family who live in the CT burbs just outside NYC..I don't hear anyone complaining about Guantanamo Bay injustices... End of rant..

I don't see what else can be offered, and it does not seem to be working. I don't see how you can say it isn't working. A handful of cabbies out of hundreds have asked for special status and an authority has foolishly IMO given it. The carrot is available to everybody. Behave, get a job, mind your own business, learn to speak fluent English, become an American. The rest of the cabbies have a job, hundreds of them, are minding their own business, etc. Penalizing them for that by refusing to ride in their cabs simply because they are not Muslims (and failed to put enough pressure on their brethren to back off) is bass-ackwards. Maybe they could have done more, but it's still both wrong and counter-productive to treat them just like the trouble-makers.
