Bin Laden Determined to Attack IN US - IN THE US - the title said, not in some foreign country as Rice dishonestly claimed she thought the report said. The report also specifically stated Bin Laden's possible to HIJACK US PLANES - inside the US again, not outside.

Those two glaring warnings would have compelled any presdient who cared about our security to at least pick up the phone or issue an order to tighten security at airports. But what did Bush do? What did Rice do? Absolutely nothing. And now we also know Tenet, Clarke and Topher met with Rice in July 2001 pleading with her to take the imminent threat seriously. They felt she gave them a brush-off.

Also, there had been several previous warnings and threats of AL Qaida hijacking planes to use as weapons, including one plan by Al Qaida to fly a plane into the Eiffel Tower. So when Rice, Bush and Cheney said they never could have imagined such an attack they were either lying or totally out to lunch.

Finally, on Sept. 4, 2001, someone was hired to take Clarke's place and start up a counter-terror unit. But this guy, an Admiral, was not even given security clearance. No problemo, right? No hurry at all. Almost an entire year would have gone by without replacing Tenet's crack anti Al Qaida group which stopped the LAX 1999 bombing attempt.
