Que

I also liked this line in Maxwell's piece.

We as Americans think that because we want more oil these other countries should produce more oil.

I think the move by Kuwait to only produce a fixed percentage of reserves annually is just the beginning of a lot more oil nationalism and not only in the Middle East but also places like Russia and maybe even Canada. A lot of countries will be looking to conserve resources and stretch out reserve life since they know that type of policy can only mean higher prices in the future.

Nothing new about oil nationalism. Reading a section of "The Prize" last night dealing with the expropriation of the Anglo-Iranian oil company. It was started by rabble-rousing pols whipping the locals into a frenzy about the imperialists and ended with the Brits slinking off in humiliation.

The year?

1951.

Just to be precise, and not aiming to raise controversy: There are millions of Muslims that aren't Arabs, Arians Iranians, Malays Indonesians and Malaysians, The Pakistanis, The Indians and the Maghreb folks from North Africa....

But of course, you are correct when you mention the Arabs Muslins -the GCC- since tehy are the ones that got oil gifts...
