US today are totally different animal. The US still have the technological edge, but it is no guarantee of success.

Nothing is pre-ordained. GWB, Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, Rumsfeld and Diebold ran the table in 2000 and 2004. The US will survive this run of bad luck and perhaps even the next one with the Republicans retaining Congress, SCOTUS, and a relatively benign Whitehouse.

Nothing is pre-ordained. Luck is part of the equation.
