Eplay, Argentina case: Boomlets are not good! Argentina supplies for WWI, Holland gas, the oil boom of 1973 in Nigeria...

It is very hard for a boomlet to lift a country. It comes too quickly and easy. Countries can't absorb it. Squander it.

Texas bumper sticker:

"PLEASE GOD, Just Give Me One More Oil Boom. I Promise Not to Blow It Next Time."

Just watch Norway when thee oil runs dry...

Spain used the wealth to support costs of the crown and to build cathedrals. Man those castles and those cathedrals of Europe look good and imponent. (In a couple of centuries, the Mosques of Middle East will show the same. The wealth oil was used to prop up religion )

Colonies' money going from S. America, to Spain and to the Austro-Hungarian empire financed that.

The Habsburgs sent their children -as young as 14 years old- to marry as quickly as possible a Spanish or Portuguese prince so that they could get their hands in the money coming from S. America.

The US chosed to kick the Brits out instead of financing them... Brits wanted the Spain model of sucking wealth.
