Wait. Wait! Someone -with an eye on juicy defense contracts- concocted the idea that housing missiles in submarines, would make them not destroyable in a first strike and hence the first strike would not have been an option, since the subs missiles would still hit the aggressor.

Hey, I can tell you I used to make a lot of jokes about the nuclear Armageddon thing. That was really funny. Only Peter Sellers could od better than me!

The Russians were happy controlling their empire and enjoying the good life with shops with imported goods and Dachas and the US happy with the USD5.000 coffee machines and those HQ in nice castles in Europe...

Man that was really good life!

It all about money! It not about country and God and democracy and freedom.
It is all about hoarding the moolah and having a nice time!!!

I know some people here in my neighborhood who likes that too!! And don’t tell you who they are :-)

Hi TJ - Note that the same stability applies if Japan does have some nukes.

Except they gain a degree of deterence against Kim Jong Il.

Plenty of time to develop this if North Korea goes any farther.

I expect that Kim would like to be in position to say - trade with us, and don't block out financial games, or Kyoto gets a warning shot.

A Japanese nuclear force would not eliminate that, but would reduce the North Korea edge.

russia/china doesn't have to worry about the n.korean nuke as much as some folks seem to believe

If the Chinese Ambassador to the UN is a reflection of China leadership, they seem too sensible to gamble. If we can get a sensible administration, the dangers of the world can easily be fixed.

All we need is a bit of luck and get somebody to stand up against those Diebold machines.
