"suitably qualified scientists" Good boy, you're slowly getting around to defining what you mean by scientist. Don't forget it was bureaucrats and their pet scientists who gave us most of our modern tragedies. Science works for the highest bidder like everybody else. Ozone depletion did not happen by mere chance it happened because scientists did not properly test their product before releasing to a mass market. Weapons of mass destruction were not designed at the unemployment center they were designed by scientists as a weapon of terror. Nuclear waste is not generated by the trailer park brigade it is generated by the actions of scientists who did not plan ahead for a disposal cycle. Ever hear of a place called Bhopal? Methyl isocyanate gas killed 3800 people because of a tank design flaw. The tank was not designed by rednecks in Shropshire, the tank was designed by scientists. Please don't give me the crap that science is self correcting and will overcome. It was the same type of blind faith in religion that led to countless atrocities that you appear to possess for science.
