Sitka is just a wonderful jewel town....

I sat around in Sitka for two days waiting for a buddy to swing by in his longliner to pick me up for the cross-Gulf trip to Seward. I agree, it's a great town. I still have my Sitka Sound Seafoods Hat that I picked up there.

This is the boat I was on. We were even boarded by the USCG. This picture is not from the time of my trip, but several years later.

Juneau has some redeeming features if you have enough time. Ketchikan gets even more rain, so if that's your guage, go back to Juneau some time.

I liked Skagway too. Haines is pretty neat as well. The weather up there is more congenial than Juneau, which is 70 miles to the south.

I like Sitka too. Except flying into there. The airport is built on rock fill and is only as long as it has to be. When it's blustery, landing can be exciting. One landing I'll never forget had the wings tip about 45 degrees right before the runway.
