Models for sheltering the homeless…Got it.

If we are trying to provide a service to the homeless, including those with mental illnesses, I think we should ask the more lucid what they would accept, and determine what features of the outreach programs have worked with the less lucid.

Some of the planting ideas work OK in the summer, but don’t help much in the winter when the need is greatest. The two most important criteria are “warm” and “safe.”

I really like the pod idea. If there are public areas that are not used in the winter months, we could convert these areas into temporary shelters using prefabricated walls and some insulated top that would allow for shower areas and portable toilets, as well as a communal area.

I would feel better with the small private rooms with common bathrooms, but we could start cheap and move up later.
