From my experience it doesn't really work to character assassinate. If you're saying Reagan was attacked it didn't have much effect on his approval rating. Same with Clinton. He left office with a high approval rating. Much higher than Bush's is presently. I think people are more self assessing than that. They look and see "what is this person doing to make my life better or worse" and base their opinion on that. If not then how is it that Clinton left office with a 65% approval rating?
