I don't think insane people are sane, but I think insanity is a lot more limited than most people think it is. Simply assessing the universe differently is not necessarily insane, when you have a large bunch of people doing it with you. The Nazis, for example, were not insane, no matter how much we might wish to call them that. People WANT to think they were, because they want to distance Nazi actions from what is "human", but "normal" human actions can encompass some pretty horrible behaviors. I think that realizing that is the first step to preventing those horrible behaviors.
