Gartner lowers NAND forecast by $1.5 bln - EE Times

EE Times reports a soft pricing environment has prompted Gartner to lower its NAND flash-memory growth forecast by nearly $1.5 bln in 2006. In a new, preliminary estimate, Gartner said that worldwide NAND flash revs are projected to be around $13 bln in 2006, down from $14.48 bln in its previous forecast. ''It is a pretty steep drop based solely on pricing, but again it is still preliminary,'' said Joseph Unsworth, an analyst with Gartner. ''July and August prices were softer than expected, and with the shortage in Q4 not being as severe, it resulted in ASP/MB roughly being down 65% instead of 60%.'' There is some good news for NAND vendors. Overall NAND bit growth is still slated at 199.8% this year. ''I do not anticipate bit growth to change significantly, although, I am still waiting on vendor responses,'' he said.
