Except that it does make sense- if you look at Vietnam (just one example- you could also look at many other engagements by large countries in smaller countries with civil wars, or guerilla wars). America (that is to say the government at this moment) may say all sorts of things about its commitment to Iraq, but in the end, if you wear down the American people they will make their government leave a country, no matter what promises have been made. And violence makes sense in that context.
