There is a large difference between a sober alcoholic and an alcoholic who is currently drinking - one is sober and one is not. But both have the same mental disorder.

The sober alcoholic is one drink away from picking up where they left off.

The alcoholic's behavior, whether sober or drunk, is self-centered, grandiose, dishonest, short-tempered and belligerent. They frequently lie, even about things which don't matter and even when telling the truth would be more beneficial.

Confession: I cheated once at croquette when I was 9 years old. How does that reflect on me as a fifty something person?

Confession is good for the soul. I forgive you.
