I don't understand the argument. Human beings are some of the most complex, interesting animals in the world. I've never met a single person whom I thought was just like any other person. Not even close.

To reduce human behavior down to "alcoholics behave like X" is, in my opinion, not only false but fetishistic. The "12 step-ization" of reality promises to make the messy job of living into something you can do on autopilot.

There's a lot of money to be made in oversimplifying the complex, but you don't have to buy into that, really. For one thing (the most important), it doesn't work.

No more than using the latest toothpaste and laundry detergent will make you rich, popular, and fulfil your wildest sexual fantasies.
