I've just been doing some googling. It seems like the moral/ritual differentiation is a Jewish thing.

I did find a source that assumed the same criterion for differentiating, that is, is it featured in more than one religion or not. I find that unsatisfying. I would prefer a conceptual bright line. Dogs may be tabu in only one religion but pigs are tabu in more than one. So dogs are ritual and pigs are moral. I don't think so.

That's because you weren't brought up going to Rabbinical school.

I've always thought that would have enjoyed that. Had I been Jewish and a man and therefore eligible, of course.
