The criticisms of the study are strong. Of course if the study is off by a lot, and there is only say 70,000 additional deaths rather than nearly 700,000 that still doesn't mean that "things are not bad", or that "things have not gotten worse", or even "things have not gotten a lot worse".

But that doesn't mean the study has proven much of anything.
