While I agree that his point is correct as a generalisation, I disagree with his apparent effusive attitude about it. After one provides for his basic needs such as shelter and food and family and work, what development there is past that point in my opinion can be characterized as "stuff". And I would point out that when the energy sources run out our very energy dependent lifestyles will have to change. I think our children will see this change.
