oh I see. There is a difference in that judgement in my example has already been delivered. Then the appeal. Earlier in the process also could create the same result but not necessarily. Earlier in the process the suicide could be a way out of dealing with the humiliation of being charged. I suppose that could be true in either case but the former has already been adjudicated once.

It seems we should have some provisions for dealing with both types of situations. Like, if you commit, you lose your appeal/case unless there is someone remaining who could plead the case. Maybe that is already what happens.
