It seems small now. When a fire comes, you will think it is more responsibility. A friend of mine was a VP at a brokerage and had to lead his team of roughly 50 out of lower Manhattan on 9/11. There were no supplies for masks of any plan for evacuating under those circumstances. He thought it was an insignificant duty up until that moment.

Without people like you being responsible, it would not be as nice of a place.

When I did that I had a buddy system so everybody would be accounted for in fire drills. We could empty the nine floors of the Federal Building in just a few minutes.

It was my own idea. I never went to any meetings.
