Ted, the point is that California has higher taxes than Washington State, yet has more problems. The worst fear of Pacific Northwesterners is that they'll inherit California's problems.

In other words, high taxes are often a sign that things aren't working out too well. In other words, they're the result, not the solution, of deeper problems.

The problem with California is that its taxes aren't high enough. That's why I left. CA has some serious problems that can not be addressed because they don't have enough money. Prop. 13 was put into place by a Republican when the state was more GOP than Dem. I contend it is ruining the state slowly over time.

The other huge problem is that residents looked the other way when the illegal population began to grow......because they were addicted to cheap labor. The public cost of supporting the illegals has not been well documented but I suspect its high.
