They merge. Shouldn't be so tough to agree a price - EXEL isn't the most volatile of stocks -

A 50 - 70% premium should do it - and financial security ought to add several hundred million to the npv of EXEL's pipeline.

Could probably strip out anything up to $20m of annual costs.

Otherwise EXEL will end up part of BP sooner or later, unless they get really lucky.
