McCain is a spent force. He has aligned himself too closely with the discredited Bush.

In 2000, his appeal was based on the contrast he provided vis-a-vis Bush. Bush was an unknown, and McCain not only had more recognition, but he came across as someone more intelligent than Bush. But since then, he has backed the divisive politics of Bush, squandered the opportunity to join hands with Kerry in 2004 and move the country to the center, failed to denounce the swift boating of Kerry and thereby projected himself as a patron of Bush's divisive politics.

IMO, the 2008 Presidential race is likely to shape up as a I-told-you-so race whether it is Al Gore or John Kerry. Don't be surprised if the ticket shapes up to be Al Gore-John Kerry ticket.
