There's no "North Iraq" with a Ho Chi Minh trail through jungle to the south. There's a LOT less swamp and it gets a lot colder. Sure, there is civil insurrection and people running around firing various weapons. Meanwhile, it does look as though Osama is going to beat the USA, and that the fly-paper theory was highly successful [but a few too many flies to deal with]. If Osama beats the USA in Iraq, after having beaten the USSR in Afghanistan, and having destroyed the Twin Towers and a lot of people and other stuff, he'll be insufferable. Next thing you know he'll be taking over Saudi Arabia and installing Islamic Jihad in Islamic headquarters in Mecca, turbocharged with a LOT of oil. It did seem very daft for the USA to go chasing will 'o the wisp WMDs in Iraq when Osama was obviously not within a country mile of the place and there weren't WMDs there of any significance. If the USA had stayed focused on Afghanistan and close parts of Pakistan, and put as much effort into Tora Bora as has gone into Baghdad, Osama would have been all wrapped up. Instead, they found Saddam hiding in a hole and he's being tormented by lawyers; but he had nothing to do with the Twin Towers destruction. Meanwhile, Osama sends out regular audiotapes promising even greater destruction that 911, which might well NOT be a bluff. It seems dopey to have got Saddam but not Osama. Now we have North Korea with actual WMDs and Iran on the way to them. That's a bit of a blunder. Saddam had had inspectors rampaging around for a decade. Now the other Axis of Evil countries are calling the bluff. We'll find out soon how much of a bluff it is. I guess a bit of a military strike on Iran is on the cards, maybe before the elections to give them a lift. It looks like the worst of all worlds is coming = no Osama, Afghanistan getting problematic, Iraq all but lost, all the money spent, debts burgeoning, no more lecturing China about "human rights", "habeas corpus", "torture as evil", Saudi Arabia vulnerable with Islamic Jihad encouraged, North Korea testing nukes, Iran getting them ready too.
