n.korea is not irrational, but very daring, and only acting irrational, and thus the concern over its moves

but, we will not know for sure until we know

suppose that n.korea perfected its devices, and made a difference to their delivery, what then happens to all the conventional positions that assumes attritional war? must be moved and kept out of instant harms way, and ... expensive will be the projection of force

suppose this state of affairs spreads globally, then where will any aircraft carrier berth to show the flag? answer, no where.

suppose such nuclear democracy is within the hands of 156 nations of this planet, what happens to the existing monetary system?

well, we just took a few steps down that path

<An eternal game of chicken in which it is useful to be perceived as irrational. Or dumb.> There is another option = suicidal. You might think that falls into the category of "irrational", but it's not. Threatened suicidal defence is highly rational. It's very convincing to the attacker as they can see that it's a valid defence.

It's just another way of saying "Give me liberty or give me death". The powerful can choose to give the victim death, but then they'll have to pay that price too, which they don't want to do.

Ronald Raygun played the dumb card. "Aw shucks, I'm just a hillbilly, and don't understand all that complicated negotiating diplomatic talk. I've just got this big red button which they say to push if I get grumpy about something".

Bush goes the uncomplicated way too - pulls out a six gun and lets them have it. Evil-doers dropping like flies after getting stuck in the fly-paper theory of invading Iraq, which worked a treat. A bit too well as there are a LOT of flies in the area. Now it looks like it's time to cut and run, leaving Osama and Islamic Jihad to celebrate victory over the Great Satan.

It looks like Osama was right. He beat Gorby and the USSR. He destroyed the Twin Towers and made a big hole in the Pentagon. He ordered the USA out of Saudi Arabia, and they complied. He is going to beat the USA again in Iraq. It looks as though Iran, although being an evil-doing paid-up Axis of Evil member will get away with a nuke production line and will be asked to help pacify Iraq. Maybe Libya will revamp their nuclear bomb plans.

A gloating Osama will be very annoying.
