I think Bush is wrong about one thing, that if we leave, al Qaeda will set up shop in Iraq as they did in Afghanistan. This is ridiculous on it's face, they ALREADY have a pretty safe haven in Waziristan in Pakistan, are using it to re-aquire Afghanistan, and have any number of other countries worldwide to run things from. That's just fearmongering for his own PERSONAL benefit, for support from the fearful so HE won't have to lose HIS war.

Besides, the Iraqis don't like the al Qaeda foreigners any more than they like the American foreigners. They are just allies of convenience and the moment for the Sunnis. As soon as we leave and some accommodation (perhaps through civil war) is reached with the majority Shia, that alliance will end.

Al Qaeda is in Iraq because WE are in Iraq, and we quite frankly can't keep out the jihhadis as even half as well as Saddam did.
