Not a one has burnt out. They are $10 for 6 of those babies. (Home Depot)
About 1/5 the electricity used for the same light.

There are also "on demand" water heaters that don't store gallons of hot water. Thus you only pay to heat the water you use. My parents used them in Europe and I notice that they are now for sale here in Home Depot.

I made 7.5 KW yesterday; down about 1KW from the summer peak. Won't know how much I save until I've had it for a year. It will run me abut 5 bucks a month for being hooked up to PGE.
I haven't had to pay a bill since July. The gate was locked, so they guessed at my meter reading. Guessed way high, cuz the solar was already running. So, no charge at all in Aug, a buck and change last month, before they had officially ok'ed me for the program.
I'm more conscious of conserving now. First summer I've turned off the water bed in about 5 years. Put all the entertainment stuff on a switchable surge protector, so no more little red lights on all the time.
