My persuader of choice is a Mossberg 590P in Marine finish. Maybe a his & hers package for Xmas. Yours: Load with "00" buck...nothing else. No slugs, no birdshot. Add a swivel swing, an attachable streamlight and a fore end pistol grip...and you've got everything you'll ever need in an anti-two legged varmit gun. Hers: Load with #4 buckshot...it's the floor on effective penetration but, will not kick so hard, as to prevent her from follow up shots, or from practicing with it. Like everything else... practice, practice, practice... Take the Mrs. to a trap shooting range. Great way to learn safety, accuracy and gain confidence. A gun safe with either the fingerprint sensors, or a quick combo release is safe within the family confines. And a 9mm Glock-26 with 147 gr Speer Gold-Dot JHP's aint a bad back up/carry gun (if you are in a permit friendly state). Two other suggestions: Find the cocker spaniel a rather large black & mahogany friend named...Mr. Rottweiler and invest in a state of the art alarm system.
