"People are sick, suffering and dying that could all be helped. The FDA needs to act ASAP. They need to ask congress to change the law."

The pot culture is steeped in the mystique of secrecy with clever hideaway refuges where people can gather and bond in the special intimacy of being together while separate from the boring and mundane. This culture offers more of a reason to use pot than any underlying benefits you may find in 'being stoned'.

When the mainstream non-toking public hears about medical marijuana they roll their eyes. Why is that? It is because they view the issue as a sneaky way for NORMAL to circumvent the straight laws; they feel that it is somehow manipulative. No body likes to feel manipulated.

If pot was legalized the current pot culture would largely melt away and casual users would decide to use or not use based purely on the benefits they find in the condition of being stoned. I am convinced it would change everything.
