Chas, I graduated from college using a slide rule. The stress of working and grad school at the same time forced me to buy an SR50 for what was an outrageous expense at that time.

I currently work in the guts of industrial America. Huge changes are underway - but in the world we are very competitive - as long as we are flexible in our means - ie using low cost foreign supply when appropriate.

I see Europe in a catastrophic situation re competitiveness. I see the US in good shape - as long as markets are allowed to work. This is where Democrats scare me. Look for instance at cars - remember how crappy US cars were before competition forced them to get better.

We need to move towards more education and we need to recognize health care is too expensive for it to be a personal responsibility alone.

Compromises are needed - but markets allowed to work will serve the US well.

Just think how successful the Bush tax cuts would have been if there had never been a 9/11. Ergo - any compromises must recognize the threats in the world are real. Again - many leftists are imo absolutely delusional on that score.
