Owning shares of stock could mean as little as $500 worth, or shares in a mutual fund or retirement plan. The average for an American family is $30,000 in the stock market. The market under Clinton was very robust. The stock market has generally been strong for 14 years with a few corrections. However it has been flat most of Bush's six years.

The tax cuts targeting the rich investment class and billionaires have helped the market, as has the out-sourcing of US jobs to the 3rd world. That's helped corporate profits. SO has the Bushie gas gouging and health care gouging. Privatization is often a ripoff of tax-payer money but that has helped some corporations, like Halliburton.

All in all, the Bush economy almost exclusively helps the top 1-2% and no one else, especially when you factor in the gas, health care gouging and the soaring cost of education and rent. Those are four items the average family can't do without and now cannot afford. Wages have been flat under Bush, job security and benefits are much worse than under Clinton.
