<<There will be no collapse of the global monetary system in our lifetimes>>

... is one of many possible conclusions, depending primarily on our respective life span expectations

<<gold will not trade a lot more than (say, more than three times) its average extraction cost>>

... i cannot agree with what you say. the issue set is comprised of several details, (i) need to define 'a lot more', (ii) must stipulate growth rate of 'average extraction cost', and (iii) depends on 'trading' against what currency (argentine peso, zimbabwe dollar, or something in between?)

<<gold will certainly never be considered money>>

... is another one of many possible conclusions, which, in this particular instance, is clearly wrong, because i most certainly can (i) see on my regular bank statement, together with checking, savings, and multi-currency fixed deposit amounts, my gold tally, denominated in taels, (ii) against which i can borrow, (iii) exchanging for which i can write checks against, and (iv) in a pinch, i would have no more trouble spending gold to buy things anywhere in the world as i would spending any of the minor currencies in the rest of my bank account

thus explained, i disagree with your 'certainly'

and to seek clarification, i am not sure what you meant by 'money', and i have doubts about understanding what you meant by 'considered'

<<There will be a US recession in 2007, and it may affect the world, but it will not collapse the system>>

maybe ... let us hope you are correct. i have no particular wish to be correct in any hurry, and if i were, i would be at 100% gold, for that then would be the only way to play the end game of fiat money inflation (we are not there yet)

my gold is for my coconut, and hopefully i will not have to call on it in my life time, but ... just in case, as the case already has come into view

gold is for the time traveller, and for mineralizing excess savings, and solidifying surpolus capital, and the fact that it is in a bull market against DJIA, NAZ100, S&P500, etc is just an added attraction

chugs, j

re: There will be no collapse

----------

... 'tis an evening for cooking words upon which you'll dine in future.

I'll surrender broad berth to the man who, so lucidly, divines the future -- and schedules travail conveniently post mortem.
