You mean during Mao's era ? or when ? IMHO, that collapse happened long before Mao came into being, some time during the Song dynasty. At lease, our "Center Kingdom" peaked during that dynasty, just like it is frequently dubbed "world headquaters" in USA nowadays. Mao just stopped the further slidding, and he actually built a solid base for China. I would refrain from commenting on what is to come in USA. Which is the future, futures are mostly for speculation.
