OK...I will...Seattle has the same dynamics...fewer families in the city, and the schools have gone from about 80,000 not too many years ago, to about 40,000 today in the Seattle area proper. People that can are getting out of the city to the outlying districts...the crime is too much, and the teachers either have too many other things to teach except reading, writing, arithmetic and history....or they choose not to. PE, Sex Ed, basket weaving III, and diversity classes seem to be the order of the day. Interesting though, the teachers unions continue to want more and more money, even though the number of students is more than 50% down. There was an article in the ST within the last few days, that talked about the large number of kids in classes.....I remember that the average number in the elementary was 22...average in middle school was 25....!!! Back in the dark ages, when I was in Jr high we had 28-32 per class....and in HS, it was between 34-39!
