Not sure what y'all are arguing about. Both sides stink, just in different ways. It's like arguing which smells better, a skunk or a rotten fish.

The ideal government is a small one that does what our forefathers intended. The primary goal should be to defend the country and deal with crisis. Taxation and interference in the affairs of the citizenry should be minimal.

Since we can't have that, the next best solution is gridlock and a minimal wasting of the country's resources.

>>>I keep hearing this but can you give me an example from the past 15 years where this has happened?<<<

What was Bubba's program, Americorps??? Besides, the Democrats are eternally on my s^&tlist for creating social security - which benefits a few,but largely serves as an income stream for whatever pet project congress wants to push, all the while deluding those between the age of 40 and 60 that they will ever get anything from the government when they retire.

>>>Homeland security and that horrible medicare drug program are two.<<<

Hey!!! You are preaching to the choir. I mentioned medicare in my previous post.

>>>blames LBJ for the deficit!<<<

The last time the budget was balanced was 1957 under Eisenhower. Eisenhower put the "advisors" in Nam, but told Kennedy to get them out over coffee on the morning of Kennedy's inauguration. Kennedy didn't follow the advice, and it was Johnson who really cranked things up, and INITIATED the modern concept of deficit spending.

Of course what "W" has done makes LBJ look like Silas Marner. Just because LBJ started it, doesn't mean eveyone else has to follow in the folly.
