Peter, I was fortunate to be living in relatively small town, of about 8,000 people when my sons where of school age. Even though the separation of schools because of race was outlawed in 1964, that town still had separate schools and there was no conflict because of that. Those of both races liked things just as they were.

I am not implying that integration is the problem in schools today, but times were just different then. If any child, regardless of the school they attended, took any kind of weapon on campus, he not only caught hell from the principal, but got his butt tanned when he got home. Drugs had not yet invaded a town that small. I have been told that things have changed for the worse since I left.

What ever happened to Captain Jack? I enjoyed his posts.
