18 weeks of training to follow orders without thinking. Plus all that training is about how you will kill the enemy, not how they will kill you. You go as a unit, not as an individual.

Its a thrill, let me tell you. I only ever did it once. I was carrying my pack, rifle, and a 27 pound PRC NINE radio on my back. The sea was somewhat rough, the landing craft went UP AND DOWN as I climbed down the net. Men below who went before me do their best to hold the net away from the edge of the ship (if you get caught between the LC and the ship you are CRUSHED) if you dont time it right and jump TOO SOON when the sea is DOWN you have a HUGE DROP. Its not nearly as simple as it seems, thats for sure. jdn
