To All,

Does anyone here have an opinion on the effect of Oracle supporting Red Hat's Linux product will have on SUNW and the importance of Solaris.

26-Oct-06 17:29 ET In Play Sun Microsystems: Conference call summary (5.36 +0.06) -Update : Co does not provide normal guidance, but says expects sequential increase in Q2 revs in high single-digits and gross margins still in the 42-44% range. Co says gross margin range is conservative and trying to be prudent with all ests. Don't expect to generate cash in 1H07 but do expect in 2H07. On track to produce operating income of at least 4% by 4Q07. Ultimate goal is operating income of at least 10%...Co made progress in software and services business, rather than in systems and storage, in moving to more recurring rev. Think that path will give co best flexibility and margin profile as they introduce products. Would feel more comfortable if they were moving down that path more rapidly... Co isn't planning any major increases in R&D. More investment is around core platforms already created. Using Solaris operating system mostly. R&D in absolute dollars should stabilize at this level... Co says through Solaris, use Intel and are a huge supporter. Looking forward to exploring the relationship with them; think lot of opportunity.
