I would have JFK in a heartbeat over any current Democratic contender.

That said, he was a better president than he was a God, but it seems that people still insist on worshipping him and his clan.

To me, that is incomprehensible.

"As Democrats go JFK might not have been so bad. At least he cut taxes, and he didn't expand the federal government in the way or to the extent FDR or LBJ did."
from Tim F

"three things made Kennedy memorable: Cuba, the space program, and Oswald."
From Jim S:

So there you JFK in a nutshell:
Cuban Missile Crisis
Cut Taxes
Refrained from expanding federal government
Promoted the Space Program
Did Marilyn Monroe
Expanded role in Vietnam
Got assassinated

Tim, You have a point. I heard a lot of stories about how FDR used WWII to do just about anything he wanted to, whether it benefited the nation. LBJ is another story. Being a Texan, I know just how ruthless he was to climb to the top. To get elected to Congress, we knew that he, and his hench men, voted dead people, and in a couple of cases, ballot boxes that they knew went against him, were thrown into the river without ever being counted. In the Senate, he began to gather information on evey other Senator, and Congressman, that would, at least, embarrass them, or even put them in jail. And, whenever LBJ wanted to get something passed, he would remind those that opposed him of the info he had on them, which forced them to vote with him. All of the wrongs he did as President would take far too long to list.
