Re: "Middle class favoring Democrats" I'm sure that the 'social liberal' and 'social conservative' respective bases of both Parties haven't moved much in any meaningful sense. Rather, it's been the STRONG SHIFT of the political INDEPENDENTS (largest political class in America today...) away from the currently governing cliques that is making this year memorable. SOCIAL conservatism and FISCAL liberalism turns out to be exactly the opposite of what most of the Independents want. They'd vastly prefer FISCAL conservatism and SOCIAL moderation.
